ESL Teacher's Certificate, Vancouver Community College
Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurial Management, Royal Roads University, Victoria, Canada
John is a native speaker of Canadian English. In addition to his undergraduate degree from the innovative business faculty at Royal Roads, and a training certificate from one of Canada's prominent TESOL schools, John's strengths as a spoken language instructor are also shaped by the many years he spent as a summer counsellor at a special YMCA camp for kids learning English as a second language. Situated in a national park in a mountain valley about an hour's drive from Vancouver, the camp was an ideal way for children of new Canadians to learn conversational English outside the pressure of a traditional classroom. This enabled John to develop effective teaching methods that engage students. John has travelled abroad extensively. After university, he lived in Osaka for two years, where worked as a consultant for a Japanese corporation with business ventures across North America. He has helped to develop language and cross-cultural training programs for a number of large Asian corporations and universities.
